Adaptive Re-Use: Warwick Hotel Penthouse Terrace Addition, Philadelphia, PA

The Kachele Group (TKG) designed a steel-framed addition that encloses a portion of an existing 21st Floor terrace on the hotel building that dates from the 1920s.  TKG engineered an efficient shallow-depth framing configuration to satisfy limited available headroom.  TKG designed and coordinated the base of the addition so its steel framing bears on the original floor surface and transfers loads to the existing floor framing below, but the new framing is concealed within the new built-up floor.
